Shoulders, bust, and hips are around the same size, with no defined waistline. 📏

  • Body shape appears quite "straight," with evenly distributed weight — the body shape with the fewest curves

  • Shoulders, waistline, bust and hips are around the same size

  • Waist has very little definition and measures from one to eight inches smaller than the bust

  • You don’t have a big bust and might have a flat bottom

Celebrities:

Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, Alexa Chung, Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, Gwen Stefani, Keira Knightley, Cara Delevingne, Kate Hudson, Hillary Swank, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kim Cattrall, Nicole Kidman, Kate Middleton, Olivia Palermo, Demi Moore, Zoe Saldana, Solange, Sienna Miller, Tilda Swinton, Taylor Swift

Goal:

Create curves and show off your slender legs and arms.

Dresses:

Side cutout dress (side cutouts make you appear curvier). Dresses with a defined waist, or not. Drop waist dress, fit-and-flare dress, wrap dress, dresses with volume at hip area, bodycon, shift, empire, tunic, kimono, shirt — you can pretty much have your pick! Dresses with prints, textures and details, especially from the bust and above. Full dress in a light or bright color with a waist belt. A dress with a leg slit makes you look curvier. Playful rompers and jumpsuits.

Gowns:

Long sheath with some shaping at waist.

Tops:

Ruffled top (makes bust appear larger), button-down shirt either shaped in at waist or worn with belt or tucked in, blouson-style blouse, bust-enhancing necklines (such as scoop neck, sweetheart, bustier), tucked-in tops to help create shape, peplum tops, halter tops, crop tops, kimono tops. You have a lot of flexibility in neckline and can pull off high-necklines such as boatnecks and lower necklines. Look for tops with embellishments around the bust and shoulders, or that add fullness around the bust (think shirring, ruffles, bright colors, bows).

Toppers:

Slightly cropped jacket with a banded bottom such as bomber style jackets, nipped waist jackets, peplum-shaped fitted jackets create curves on your straight frame, long jackets. Shorter jackets look great stopping just above the hips. Shoulder pads will give extra width and the illusion of a waist. Trench coats, single or double-breasted coats with wide lapels, breast and waist pockets. Belted versions help give a shaped waist. Menswear-inspired toppers.

Skirts:

Mini skirt (emphasizes your curves and shows off thin legs). Mid-waisted skirts. Skirt with box pleats, full circle skirt, full A-line skirt, peplum skirt. A knee-length pencil skirt that tapers at the hem will help create curves! Straight-line skirts aren’t as good because they will cause you to look rectangular. Skirts with volume-increasing details like ruffles and tiers, bows, ruching, gathering, prints, and embellishments.

Pants & jeans:

Tapered and skinny pants, mid-rise pants with pleats, bootcut, wide and flare leg. Wear skinny jeans/pants not with a tight top but with a tunic or top that gathers around the waist to create a curvy waistline. Low-waisted and mid-waisted pants. Oversized trousers. Baggy boyfriend cut jeans/pants. Distressed jeans add visual volume. You can handle details like embellishments or side pockets. Shorts with pleats, ruffles or embellishments. Show those legs! Menswear-inspired bottoms.

Shoes:

Statement shoes. Kitten or medium heels, ankle straps, boots, ballerina flats, chunky boots, cowboy boots, any boot with calf details such as straps or buckles. A rounded toe is great on you.

Handbags:

Choose round shape handbags with soft edges and small to medium sized clutch bags.

Accessories:

Belts in contrasting or bright colors. Skinny belts and wider belts add shape and definition to your straight frame. Waist-cinching belts with a dress. Accessories such as statement jewelry, print and brightly-colored scarves. Textured tights like fishnet, or brightly-colored tights. Bangle bracelets.

Hair:

Having fewer curves on your body, you will look balanced with soft waves and feminine hairstyles that frame the face — such as long wavy hair or a wavy lob. Long bangs, layers, and angles also are flattering. Going for a very short cropped haircut will add to the boyish look of your body shape — but if you’re going for some androgyny then you may want that. Too voluminous hair will look disproportionate to your body. Also, too long, sleek, straight hair will emphasize your straightness.

Active clothes:

Semi-fitted tees and tops are good on you. Create the illusion of curves with tops that have ruching on the sides and pants that have a pop of color at the hips. Wear a sports bra with a little padding and a tank with a low neckline to play up your assets. Also try blousy, loose-fitting tops to balance tight bottoms, or try an empire-cut with a built-in sports bra. For your bottoms embrace bright colors and bold prints! Try long or cropped tights, skorts, or yoga shorts to show off your legs. You can also handle gathered details that drape. Don’t wear one color from head to toe because it will make you look blocky. Avoid shapeless jackets in favor of more fitted styles.

Careful:

Stiff and shapeless garments will emphasize your straight shape. Loose-fitting tops will hide your curves and make you look rectangular or “boxy.” Midriff tops, tucking tops tightly. Double-breasted jackets, or tops/jackets that give you a boxy silhouette. Rectangle-shaped handbags.
