how to scrunch hair - messier
Start with freshly washed hair. After the shower, flip hair over and wrap it up in a microfiber hair towel and leave hair for a little while, or gently blot excess moisture from hair with a microfiber towel.
Take hair down from wrapped towel when it is about half-dry. Then, either do not comb hair or you can comb through (see what works best for you). If you like, just comb the front top pieces of hair to smooth them a little.
Apply product to damp hair. There are different options for products: just scrunching in sea salt spray (spray around roots to add volume and body there); or spraying in leave-in conditioner then scrunching in a golf ball size of mousse throughout the hair. Flip head upside down while you scrunch to help get volume at the roots.
Let hair air dry, flipping it and scrunching every 5-10 minutes.
When dry, if you like put a dime size amount of hair putty on hands and gently rub into the bottom of hair to give it more texture.
Apply some hairspray to help hold your beautiful waves!
The big key once the hair is dry is DON’T brush it! Even if you’re creating an updo, just use your fingers and not a brush to gather and work with the hair!

Apply a detangler styling spray if you like and use a wide tooth comb to detangle hair.
Apply a good amount of mousse to hair from roots to ends and comb through with a wide tooth comb.
Use hands to gently cup and scrunch hair up all around head, including moving hair upward in the root area.
Let hair air dry, not touching it. If you want to add more volume to the roots, you can add about 6 clips to around the crown of the head. Use non-creasing hair clips like these. Insert each clip horizontally, moving hair upward at the root. Leave clips in as hair dries.
